Careers at the Dukeries Academy

At Dukeries Academy we are committed to providing both independent careers guidance and a highly structured careers programme as the legal entitlement of all pupils within each of our academies. Excellent careers, information, advice and guidance prepares pupils to make appropriate choices in order to be successful in adult life. Our careers, education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) programme will enable pupils to make informed educational and careers decisions which are aspirational yet match their abilities and needs.

Students will experience multiple interactions with employers through careers talks, events such as our Careers Fayre, the annual Futures First Expo, work experience, mock interview day, assemblies, in specific lessons during tutor time and across the wider curriculum.

In addition to our links with local universities we work closely with the Careers and Enterprise Company, who regularly advise us as we work towards the Gatsby Benchmarks which set out best practices for all schools across the country.

Students use Unifrog to engage with careers curriculum materials, build their CV and portfolio, learn about different qualification and work sectors, and log employer encounters and work placements.

Work Experience:

Students use the Placements tool in Unifrog to plan, agree, and evidence their week-long Work Experience placement in Year 10. The following page contains a range of videos that help explain the Placements tool on Unifrog:

Skillsometer

Students this can help you discover what jobs you might like to do in the future. You will be presented with a series of statements. Select the emoji that shows how you feel about each statement. You will be given suggestions of jobs linked to what you most enjoy doing.

Careerometer

This can be used to explore and compare key information about occupations, help you learn about different occupations and identify potential careers.

It provides access to a selection of UK headline data relating to pay, weekly hours of work and future employment prospects for different occupations, as well as description of the occupation

Simply type in the title of the job you are interested in and the widget provides a series of options from which you can select the most relevant to you. You can then look up another two occupations and compare. You can also select ‘display the UK average’ and compare the information with the occupation you have selected.
